NEW FARES & PASSES HELPFUL Q & A

Q: When do the new fares take effect?

July 5, 2009

Q: Why are fares increasing

As part of the recent state budget cuts, Governor Schwarzenegger eliminated the State Transit Assistance Program (STA). The STA has been a key source of state funding for transit operations. With this cut, Tri Delta Transit is losing approximately 15% of its funding this year or about $3,000,000. Fare increases are necessary to continue operations with few service cuts.

Q: Will my old passes be valid on the bus?

Yes, but you will be responsible for paying the difference in fare. For example, if you board route 380 with a current 20-ride punch pass, the driver will punch one $1.25 space and you will be required to pay the additional 50¢ to reach the new single ride fare of $1.75.

Q: Why will route 300 cost more than other routes?

In order to continue receiving funding for this express commuter route, Tri Delta Transit is required to cover a certain percentage of the operating costs from fares. At the current fare this goal will not be metl and funding will be lost for the route. In order to maintain this premium limited-stop service, a premium fee must be charged. With only four stops between Brentwood and Pittsburg BART, our customers recognize the benefits received for the additional 50¢.

Q: When can I buy the new passes?

New passes will go on sale June 17, 2009 and will be available at all Ticket Connection locations. To locate the Ticket Connection location closest to you, check page 37 in the current schedule or click here . To find out which passes are sold at each location contact the Ticket Connection location directly or check the Web site.
